Mr Ajey Kumar, Country Head, GEMS India commented, "Higher education is clearly the primary focus of the Finance Minister as he has announced the increase in plan outlay by Rs 2,000 crore, from Rs 7,593.50 crore in the interim budget to Rs 9,596 crore. This is surely a move in the right direction as the government is giving appropriate importance to the education sector. We are very hopeful that even the K-12 education will be given its due as Mr Kapil Sibal is a visionary leader and plans to bring about a lot of reforms in the primary education sector. Skills development has been given priority by allocating 495 crore for community polytechnics, and "mission education through ICT" has been allocated Rs 900 crore. The budget of 2009 has good news for students from economically weaker sections who are seeking educational loans by introducing Interest Subsidy on Education Loans whereby there would be no interest on loan for higher studies which is a great respite for parents and students.
