His speech has sought to lay down the broad framework of the government’s agenda for growth and development, keeping the realities and challenges of the present context in mind. It emphasizes the need to make growth inclusive, kickstart infrastructure spending, give a boost to agriculture and also put more money in the hands of the salaried class. The removal of the Fringe Benefit Tax is good news for the corporate sector. Several policy initiatives, including major tax reforms, have been unveiled. Overall, the Budget is an expenditure-driven one, given the need to provide a push to economic growth and consumption. The growth target of 9% is laudable given the global economic turmoil.
