Mounting deficit

Sir,

 

                                  CONTAIN  FISCAL  DEFICIT

 

                     Mounting fiscal deficit is a matter of great concern for

the Nation's economy. Like individuals, no nation can ever live on

borrowed money.

 

                    No finance minister in India has ever worried about the

fiscal deterioration because huge deficits will very often be the worry

of the succeding finance ministers.There is no guarantee that higher

govt. spending will result in higher growth because a large part of

govt. expenditure is wasted and squandered.

 

                    The only possible method to reduce deficit is to cut

down wasteful govt. expenditue. When the economy is slowing

down and deficit is mounting, how can anyone justify a 79-member

jumbo ministry? Why should we spend Rs.500 crore for Sri Lankan

Tamils?There was no natural calamity.If Sri Lankan govt. can spend

money to wage war, it should be capable of spending money for

rehabilitation also. India is spending scarce money for political

mileage.

 

                Should we continue with archaic defence activities like

canteen supplies?. The F.M. could have allocated less for defence

and reduced the allocation for M.Ps ' fund.The Government should

undertake some austerity measures for itself
