"This Budget could be regarded as a path breaking one in terms of tax reforms. Proposal to table the Direct Tax Code for public comments and implementation of GST regime from April 2010 would have a far reaching positive impact on the Indian tax system. Introduction of Dispute Resolution Cell and proposed safe harbour rules should address the issue of unwanted litigation in India, which has been one of the biggest concerns of Indian and foreign taxpayers. While MAT has been increased, removal of FBT should bring cheer to the Industry. These proposals reflect the paradigm shift happening at a policy level and it seems that this renewed approach would rub its flavour at the ground level administration approach."
